This interpretation imagines French braids as bubbles, achieved by sectioning hair into boxes and binding segments as you go. Pin your plait with silk florets, pearls, small ribbons, or literally anything else for a quirky elevation of the signature style.

Lengthy Cornrows

Stylist and influencer Justine Marjan considers this faux fishtail bubble ponytail one of the "easiest" styles to pull off. This gorgeous style gives the same bohemian effect as the real thing, no genius necessary. Not only are they sweet and fresh, but they're also easy. "This is very suitable for people who find it difficult to weave braids," says expert stylist Millie Morales.

Pull-Through Braid

Hair extensions let you spice up your look with length, volume or a pop of color. We love how this box braid lob offers interest, thanks to an angled cut. But the look itself is also casual, due to the frayed ends. Add a basic three-strand braid to the side of your bob and secure with a cute metallic clip. "I like to have my hair as detangled as possible, and I recommend it, to make it much easier and take care of it and prevent it from breaking when braiding," says Morales. Fortunately, easy-to-achieve braids do indeed exist, and we’ve gathered the best ones here, with help from several braid experts.

Opt for big braids for a bold look, or fine cornrow braids for a look that’s on the subtle side. It involves five strands artistically woven together, resulting in a beautifully complex and eye-catching braid. It works well as a classic Dutch braid, a romantic side braid, or a way to spice up loose hair. Tree braids involve creating tiny cornrows near your hairline, leaving the rest of your hair loose, in a ponytail, or styled up.

You can create two braids situated just right on top of your head, and in seconds, can look like you stepped right out of Pinterest. To keep things extra whimsical, gently tug out a small face-framing section on each side and add a soft curl with a curling wand or iron. To get these royal braid hairstyles to stay put all day look, use Dove Style+Care Extra Hold Hairspray. Not only will it lock in your style, but it’ll also add a touch of shine too. Box braids are created by securing the hair extension around the base of the natural hair and creating a box-like knot attachment at the root.

Okay, so these are twists, but we added this cropped, side-swept do because this look can be achieved with braids as well. Chloe and Halle Bailey are always showcasing the versatility of locs. Here, a couple mini braids and a satin headband help Halle's beehive style to shine. Space buns are cute on their own, but when you can have a Dutch braid leading up to them, then they're just straight up showstopping. Opt for a thicker braid, and finish the ends in cute little curls—a great option if you don't have as much time on your hands to create smaller braids.

The French Braid: 30+ Incredible Ways to Get This Beautiful Braid

If you want to wear your hair down, but off the face, try two small braids. Start at the front of your middle part, creating small to medium-sized braids on each side. Shay Mitchell demonstrates one of the many ways you can wear this style. Appropriate for any hair type, the three-strand braid can be tightly kept or intentionally loosened to show volume and body. And you're in luck because this style requires half the work.

Braided Hair Ideas and Tutorials for Women

Boxer braids are trendy, sporty braids that involve two sleek Dutch braids that are tightly woven from the crown of your head to the nape of your neck. They’re perfect for keeping your hair stylishly out of your face during workouts or adding a cool, edgy vibe to your everyday look. Micro braids are just like box braids in that they can be created using the same technique. The modern-day poster child for micro braids (in our humble opinion) is Zoë Kravitz.

Make one braid or twist to frame your face and pin back to the side. Create another braid that hangs down with the rest of your hair. To make sure that your braid doesn’t come undone, backcomb the ends or tie with a fun yet work-appropriate hair accessory. Next we have the crown braid, which looks complex and time-consuming but happens to be exactly the opposite. We always make sure to leave out a couple face-framing pieces à la Vanessa Hudgens. Be sure to add a spritz of a stronghold hair spray to keep it intact all day long.

The bigger and bolder, the better, according to the very wise Janelle Monáe. Here she piles a tilted braid atop her head and lets the rest hang down on her shoulders in a side braid. A bow by any other name is still a bow, but tie it around soft, segmented French braid, and it becomes decidedly less elementary.

This hairstyle can be worn long-term, but be sure to wash and care for your hair as usual. Keep your braids shiny looking all summer long with the help of hair oil. While wearing box braids you can try a multitude of hairstyles, we fancy this half-up bun hairstyle.

40 Different Types of Braids to Elevate Your Hairstyle Game

These 'dos span all lengths and sizes so you're bound to find something that suits you. Plus, we tapped experts Jada Jenkins and Nikki Nelms, who let us in on a few tips and tricks to getting the most out of your braids. That said, there's just something incredibly cool about a braid — be it a side braid, pigtail braids, or a high ponytail braid. It's a style that works as well on the red carpet as it does on your couch at home. If you ask me, it's time that those of us who are braiding inept finally get their comeuppance. So, I tapped celebrity hairstylist Clariss Rubenstein to give me the rundown of how to accomplish a basic braid.

French Braid Updo

To style, part hair down the center, then create a Dutch or French braid on each side. There’s just something about the symmetry of mirror-imaged French braids to frame your face. If you’re looking for the added oomph up front but want to keep it clean-cut in the back, we recommend merging two french braids into one traditional braid. If your aesthetic gravitates toward angelic elegance, try a halo braid!

Cornrowed Ponytail

Half-up, half-down hairstyles remind us of our childhood, but as Laura Harrier proves, the style can feel very elevated. If you want to add texture and edge to micro braids, leave the ends undone, as Harrier has done. While they take a fair amount of time to achieve, they're not as heavy or bulky as other braided styles.

Stay inspired with trends and tutorials to suit you.

Release the back section of your hair, create loose curls for a more playful look or leave it straight. Just in case you went overboard with the ladies’ night mojitos the night before, a high-perched fishtail plait can give an instant facelift. All it takes is gathering hair into a cheerleader pony and creating that herringbone braid after it’s been tied. Pancake the weaves so they’re artfully undone (you know, like your morning-after eyeliner), secure with a hair tie and just prep for some low-key hair-flipping all day. A skinny plait, whether worn hidden or as an accent braid hairstyle near the hairline, is a clever way to upgrade a normal blowout. It gives a cute, slightly schoolgirlish feel (especially when paired with fall’s buttoned-up silhouettes).

Strand Braid

"Curly hair looks beautiful with all kinds of braids since it has texture and volume, which makes any braid look fantastic," Morales says. Cornrows are a classic, but that doesn't mean you can't add a little spin. Play with braid sizes and lengths if you want to experiment. You can also style into an updo like a braided bun, as seen here. Storm Reid likes to change up her look, making her the perfect source of hair inspiration.

Adding copper braiding hair gives the look a fun pop of color. Actress Marsai Martin put her own spin on the trend, opting for large box braids and a few charms for extra flair. Mix in a little color when you opt for extended box braids. The zigzag feed-in braids add a fun visual to opt for as well. This can apply to all kinds of braiding and hairstyles as well.

Suave Moroccan Infusion Styling Oil

Remix a sleek low pony with a center braid, which evidently will steal the show. All you need is a good pomade and boar bristle bush to replicate Hale's slick-back. Embellish your cornrows with beads or try a vibrant color like bleach blonde. Rihanna proves that you can still be the belle of the ball with criss-crossing cornrows and laid baby hairs. To replicate this slicked look, apply edge control on your baby hairs using a small toothbrush, then tie your hair down with a silk scarf. Just a few of the stunning ways to wear your crowning glory.

This one is a '90s-inspired look that's serving endless amounts of sultry sophistication. You can accessorize with a little bead in your hair to recreate the full look. Finish curling all sections of your hair, making sure to go in opposite directions for a more relaxed, casual feel to your ringlets.

Prep your hair with a styling oil, like Suave Professionals Moroccan Infusion Styling Oil, for some instant shine. Cornrow each section down to your nape, then roll the ends into a low bun. We loved this hair braiding idea when we were little and now that we’re #adulting we love them even more. Perfect for a brisk run, a trip to the supermarket or even a night on the town, French braided pigtails are the epitome of not having to sacrifice style for comfort. This pulled back look not only keeps your hair out of your face, but it also provides a mini facelift depending on how tight your braids are.

To change up the three-dimensional style, try wearing the hair in a high bun, instead. Take a page from Laverne Cox's style book with a few simple braids scattered throughout your hair. This look works best with loads of texture and length, so don't be shy about pumping up the volume, and be sure not to make the braids too perfect. Braids are well-suited to accessories, which can take the look to a new level. Here, Janelle Monáe's textured crown braid is woven through with flexible wire.

Union's straight-back box braids are one of those no-brainer braided styles you can keep going back to. Yara Shahidi has proven to be a hair chameleon throughout her career, often wearing braided styles. This braided side ponytail is such an easy-to-achieve look—pull your hair into a sleek high ponytail and create several chunky braids. Fishtail braids on a pigtail ponytails may not be your type of work hairstyle. Pile your fishtail braids up loosely into this eye-catching bun. Pull hair to pancake and create texture and a fuller effect.

Once that’s secure, the center of your hair will be braided into a cornrow pattern, which usually takes 20 to 45 minutes. To get this look, you'll want to start with a high braided ponytail. Then, you can twist and sculpt it to achieve the desired shape. Secure the braid with several pins to ensure it stays in place. There are no limits when it comes to styling your box braids. If you need some ideas, take some inspiration from actress Storm Reid.

Braid three small sections to one side of your part and secure with a single band for a side-swept style that has nothing to do with bangs. A single, well-placed braid transforms even the easiest updo into something more memorable. Before you sweep lengths into the hug of a claw clip, add a tiny braid for extra flair. A stylized fishtail that focuses on adding wavy volume to the top of the crown and thick, puffy pancaking (or flattening out) to the braid itself. Kind of like Beyoncé's high side ponytail, except Kravitz has swept up her natural braids atop her head.

They’re created by weaving tiny braids from either side into a central braid, forming an intricate pattern that resembles a fishtail. As with any protective style, you’ll want to start with clean, moisturized hair. If a wash service isn’t included in your appointment, thoroughly cleanse your hair and scalp beforehand. To start, your stylist will section off the perimeter of your hair, clipping it away from the rest.

It’s a circular, crown-like braid that wraps around your head, often created with a French or Dutch braiding technique. This ethereal style is perfect for weddings, special occasions, or adding a touch of regal charm to your everyday look. Following the simple three-strand braid, the classic French braid takes the spotlight as one of the most versatile and stylish braiding styles. You can opt for a polished, professional appearance or channel a gentle, romantic feel by gently pulling out a few strands to frame your face.

The Best '70s Hairstyles and How to Copy Them, According to Hairstylists

70s hair for women

Styling tools like curling irons, hot rollers, and round brushes can help create the signature volume and texture of the era. The key to styling a choppy cut like this is to add texture from the get go. “Using a mousse right before you blow dry will help lock in volume and hold, which ultimately helps out a lot with the many layers in your hair,” he explains. For added dimension, reach for a one-inch curling iron or flat iron to add waves and bends from the mid-shaft to the ends.

Even today, 70s hairstyles continue to fascinate us with their timeless appeal and cultural significance, as shown in media like Daisy Jones and The Six. From the shag haircut to feathered hair, curtain bangs to afros, and long hair, this era brought forth a range of iconic looks that continue to inspire and influence. Made famous by celebs like Bridgette Bardot, this long, parted fringe is a quintessential look of the era. Regardless of your hair texture or length, a set of curtain bangs frames your face and adds some fullness to your locks.

As we mentioned before, volume for this style is always concentrated in the feathered back curls instead of the crown of the head, unlike its predecessors. Zoey Deutch pulls one side back to really emphasize her touchable, feathered volume. Beehive is an iconic hairstyle that is left high and up, very voluminous, and piled up in a conical form.

Solange’s long, brushed out curls look inspired by Donna Summer, the ’70s Queen of Disco. Although she wore an afro wig while playing Foxxy Cleopatra in Austin Powers in Goldmember, Beyonce was sporting these funky, bouncy curls offscreen in 2002. With a ’70s inspired sound on her first solo track, “Work It Out”, this retro vibe was definitely part of her journey to solo superstardom. Getting a modern Beehive hairstyle can be one of the most fantastic ways of going to a party. Keeping it minimal can add an edge to your look with a neatly tied bun and a sharp hairline. If you have a longer face and want to try out a hairstyle from the 1970s, then this is what you have been looking for.

A bob cut is undeniably one of the best hairstyles for women who seek the balance between style and low-maintenance. “It grows out nicely because of the strong line, but also gives you movement and texture at the same time,” English freelance stylist Yoyo explains. This feathered cut shows how thick and luscious short hairstyles for women over 70 can look. The layers give the illusion of a fuller style but the length is low-maintenance. Neat, well-shaped hairstyles for women over 70 can be pretty stylish and effortless-looking. Embrace your white hair with a chic cut and add toners from time to time to enjoy all the nuances of silver hair.

Sleek and chic, Lopez's middle part is dressed up with voluminous waves at the end. Her brunette shade is lightened with cool-toned blonde highlights for added depth. These would often be brushed into two low ponytails at the nape of the neck (the ends could be left straight or curled), and secured with a ribbon or hair tie. There are many locs styles, but the traditional ones are relatively maintenance-free. The loc wearer can use rollers, bantu knots, or pipe cleaners to achieve curls. With everyone from Zoe Kravitz to Halle Berry taking micro bangs for a test run, there’s no denying this look is having a resurgence.

A bowl could be placed on the head and cut evenly around the edge to create this simple shape. Dorothy Hamill, figure skater, sported this boyish bowl cut where the bangs were cut at an angle for a slightly more feminine look. Her hair floated when she skated and many women immediately copied her effortless beauty. Janice in Three’s Company started off the series with a wedge cut in 1977.

eaded Braids

Popularized by singer Toni Tennille and Olympic figure skater Dorothy Hamill, this haircut gets its name from medieval page boys. Yes, it gives slight bowl cut vibes, but some fringe softens the style. And if you’re still not convinced, trendsetter Princess Diana was known to rock this cut throughout the ‘80s. Whether your hair is naturally kinky-curly or you’ll use a curling iron to get these ringlets, a center-parted loose hairstyle is hair goals. Maham is a seasoned beauty & lifestyle writer with a master’s degree in agricultural science. She loves to research latest hairstyle & hair color trends and isn't afraid to try out the newest hairstyles.

How to Create Retro Glam Waves

We also love this look as a way to show off your gorgeous natural hair! Check out our guide on adding all volume to curls to get this ’70s look. Organize your hair into four knots or twists to stretch it as it dries. If you don’t have much time, use a heat protectant and blow dry your hair. Then apply the appropriate spray and pat to spread to complete the appearance.

To operate successfully, this style requires sufficient attention. It should be washed every three days, but it can last up to a week if you use a residue-free shampoo and a thorough rinse. Use a locking booster to strengthen the dreads and keep them nourished and fed.

Take your “Fawcette Flip” to the next level by adding a significant amount of curl to your hair tips. Sticking true to the vintage feather hairstyle, this one offers more diversity and customization opportunities. You’ll get feathered bangs with large chunks of hairs on each side. Adding curly tips and brushing the hair outwards, this style emits an aura that resembles bird feathers. Small accent braids were a popular addition to loosely waved hair back in the ‘70s.

To add that extra disco flare, be sure to emphasize your eyes with sparkles or glitter pigments like the Lemonhead LA Spacepaste ($22). "Colorful eyeshadow, soft blush, and nude lips were all the rage during the 70s," Elate Cosmetics founder Melodie Reynolds explains. The Afro has long been a cultural and political statement worn by iconic Black women like activist Angela Davis, actress Pam Grier, and singer Nina Simone. Today, it still represents pride and beauty, and lucky for us, it’s easily achievable.

Joni Mitchell's Double Braids

You’ll look like one of Charlie’s angels if you have long hair and tease the crown for maximum height. Zendaya's long, sweeping side bangs and some height at the crown lend a delightful '60s flavor to her feathered bob. Mary J. Blige proves you can update this retro style by adding piecey ends to your feathered back waves. When hair is styled back away from the face and off the neck, it makes for a perfect display of your best accessories.

Free-Flowing Curls

Women of any hair type could let their hair be natural in the 70s. While bangs are nothing new, it can be said that the women of the ‘70s wore it best. They made softer, longer, and looser bangs, such as curtain and wispy bangs, the thing to do. If baby braids—whether placed as face-framing pieces or just strewn in random places throughout the hair—don't absolutely yell '70s in all caps, we don't know what does.

Farrah Fawcett's bombshell waves

Secure the ends with a small elastic (preferably clear), then wrap the braid around the base of the ponytail. Push a few bobby pins in to hold the bun in place and finish with a spritz of hairspray. Blonde highlights on a soft brown color look so pretty with aging skin because they are not jarring (like overly dark colors can be).

Haircut with Very Short Bangs

At the 2021 Met Gala, Kehlani chose to wear her hair in a vintage manner and accessorized with a two-piece silver jumpsuit that screamed disco queen. Popularized by the breakaway star of Charlie's Angels, Farrah Fawcett, this hairstyle was daring, effortless, and completely new when it launched in the ‘70s. Also commonly referred to as “The Farrah,” the feathered look features mid-to-long hair brushed back and outwards at the sides, giving the appearance of bird's feathers.

The Afro

Below, we’re sharing 20 ‘70s hairstyles so you can add a groovy touch to your beauty look. Farrah gave us the unmistakable feathered hairstyle with her role as Jill Monroe on the original sitcom Charlie’s Angels. What makes this beauty trend a timeless one is that it’s been able to evolve with the years. With many era-centric looks, it can feel like you’re wearing a costume when you re-create them.

Scarves were also commonly worn as headbands or tied around ponytails or updos. Hairpins, barrettes, and decorative combs were used to secure and embellish hairstyles. If you’ve been watching Daisy Jones and the Six, you’ll understand why this long, shaggy style has us heading to the salon. As Riley Keough shows to great effect, full bangs and tousled layers are a timeless combo. This buzzy cut was seen on everyone from Jane Fonda to Joyce Dewitt throughout the ‘70s. The shorter style has longer layers on top and a deep side part for added volume and tapered ends that hug the nape of the neck.

Are there any specific hair accessories associated with 70s hairstyles?

"I like a good leave-in when doing these looks, as they can be hard on the hair if you are not careful," Marilisa says. You can experiment with this style by tying up one side and letting the other side loose, or even go blonde to make this look pop out even more. We have made it easier for you by picking out the most fashionable ones you can apply to without any hesitation.

Side Bangs

This popular 70s hairstyle is achieved by creating layers of hair from top to down. Hair at the top is often shortest, while gradually the bottom is kept the longest. The ’70s saw a rise in bold and glamorous hairstyles, and platinum blonde locks were no exception. Whether it was Debbie Harry rocking her signature blonde mane, platinum blonde hair was a statement of confidence and glamour. In the ’70s, long, straight hair with a middle part was all the rage, as shown by icons like Cher or Ali Macgraw.

Olivia Newton-John, Jane Birkin and Joni Mitchell popularized this look, and it is still quite popular today. We never met a pair of curtain bangs we didn't like — and for good reason. Sydney Sweeney wears hers with a layered lob for a sweet and fun '70s look. The 1920s flapper bob came back in the 70s and stayed the entire decade. Short chin length straight hair and bangs were perfect for thin straight hair on a narrow face. – Long perfectly straight hair was desired by many teens and young women.

In any case, we want you to consider something before you read further and discover the beautiful hairstyles we’ve compiled for you. Feel free to spice up the so-called grandma hairstyles by experimenting with your dye job! The same cut will look absolutely different in a tender pastel pink and an eye-catching saturated burgundy.

How Much Does It Cost to Paint a House in 2024?

how much to paint outside of house

Below is a checklist for you to follow before committing to a painter. Most likely, you will need two gallons of paint to cover a room of this size. However, things like windows and doors, the color of the paint, and the current color of the walls can all influence the total amount you will need. Divide the total square footage by the coverage rate to find the number of gallons needed. If you measure in inches, divide the number you get from multiplying by 144 to convert to square feet.

Determine How Much Exterior Paint to Buy

how much to paint outside of house

The table gives you an overview of the average exterior house painting cost per square metre, sorted by location in the UK. The price includes scaffolding, preliminary work, priming and painting. Painting a brick house costs $1.50 to $4.50 per square foot or $2,600 to $7,700 for a 2,000 SF home. Mineral-based paints cost the most but last the longest and maintain the brick's breathability to prevent deterioration. This is assuming that your house exterior has a smooth(ish) finish to begin with.

How To Fix a Leaning Fence

The next step in the process is to calculate the square footage of the walls and ceilings. Square footage is an area measurement of a space, measured in feet, and we have a simple calculator to help with these calculations. One gallon of typical latex paint usually covers 350 to 400 square feet of wall area. It estimates the amount of paint, primer, and ceiling paint you’ll need for any project. There may be more complexity to fence painting than expected, especially if the fence is more intricate or made from a less common material. Homeowners can feel more confident about the project and the company they choose to work with by asking several questions during the vetting process.

Even high-end paint goes on sale when the color is no longer in demand. If you don’t have your heart set on a particular color, ask your painter which shades are on sale. Not neglecting these essential exterior home pricing details is crucial, or you’ll eventually spend much more money. Brionna is a writer specializing in home improvement, construction, and real estate topics.

Cost to paint exterior of mobile home

The total cost of hiring a professional painter includes the cost of paint, labor, and preparation. Exterior house painting costs $1 to $4 per square foot, depending on the paintable area outside, siding material and condition, number of stories, prep work, and repainting labor. The typical cost to paint a house ranges from $1,811 to $4,435, with the national average around $3,087, or from $0.50 to $4 per square foot. This average can vary depending on the geographic location of the house. Being aware of the different factors typically helps homeowners to select the paint and materials suitable for their homes.

Type of Finish

You're just a few clicks away from finding the perfect color for your next project. Some advanced calculators consider historical weather data and environmental factors affecting paint longevity and application. This feature can be particularly useful in areas with extreme climate conditions. Some paints might be more upfront but save on touch-ups and repainting in the long run.

How Much Does It Cost To Paint a House?.

Posted: Wed, 15 Sep 2021 11:53:12 GMT [source]

The main thing to work out when costing an exterior paint job is how much paint you’ll need. If you're wondering how much it costs to paint the exterior of a house then you're probably looking at dirty or dated exterior walls, right? Working out how much repainting a room will cost can be tricky enough... But with a whole-house repaint, especially if you’re planning one for the first time, it can be so much more difficult to budget correctly. Before hiring a professional painter for your exterior painting there are some things you should consider.

Cost to Paint Wood Siding

When hiring a professional painter and decorator to paint the exterior of your house, you will usually be covering the cost of all materials, supplies and their labour. Simply enter the size of the area, and the calculator finds the square footage of the walls, then estimates the paint and primer needed for that area. Metal fences are more costly to install and paint, so homeowners can expect to pay the higher price range. A rust-proof primer is necessary to ensure the longevity of a metal fence, unless it’s a metal that’s naturally rust-resistant, like aluminum. In some cases, a fence that has sat in disrepair for years will need more than a little prep work and fresh paint to get it shipshape again. Sagging, leaning, cracks, and broken panels or gates are all signs that the fence needs some additional repairs.

How to Estimate Exterior Paint

Painting the first story of your home is not too difficult as the painters will likely be able to access it from ground level. Accessing the second or third stories to paint is much harder and will require ladders, scaffolding or electric-powered lifts that you will ultimately pay for in the total cost. The cost of goods varies significantly from region to region, and the cost to paint your home is no different. You could pay twice as much to have your home painted in an expensive metro area compared to a desolate rural community.

Oil-based products have a reputation for durability, but latex and acrylic have come a long way. High traffic areas, such as porch floors, benefit from oil paints, but latex and acrylic are excellent choices other surfaces. They’re less expensive, require only water to clean, and most are low-VOC. Your contractor will work with you to choose paints based on your needs and area weather conditions.

If painting a textured surface, it’s best to use an airless sprayer for even coverage. Rolling is typically better for smooth surfaces since it lets you evenly spread the paint. You’ll also need primer, which typically costs around the same price as paint. Additionally, include painting the exterior doors in your improvement project. Steel siding is your best bet if you’re looking for a material that’s like aluminum siding but more durable. It doesn’t need to be painted unless the homeowner wants to, in which case they would pay $1.55 to $2.60 per square foot.

Remember that first-time applications will need an additional coat of paint. The total cost of painting your home’s exterior will depend on the material finish of the external walls. Kerb appeal is everything, especially for homeowners looking to attract potential buyers. Once you’ve navigated through these steps, your exterior paint calculator will provide a detailed overview of the paint needed for your project. This guide ensures that you consider all critical aspects, from the location and square footage to the finer details of your home’s design and condition. To begin, a professional preps the surface of your home’s exterior for paint.

A wooden fence will need a standard primer, but a vinyl fence will require a special type of primer to ensure a strong bond between the vinyl and paint. And a metal or wrought-iron fence should have a rust-resistant primer applied to the surface to protect against weathering. Sometimes more than one coat of primer is needed, which will increase the cost, due to the extra time, labor, and materials needed. According to Angi and HomeAdvisor, the average fence painting cost is $1,700, but a typical range is $750 to $4,250.

A golden yellow exterior will transform the whole neighborhood’s energy for the better. That’s exactly why Cortney and Robert Novogratz used the shade to revive the exterior of their five-story Art Nouveau building in New York City. It’s much more energizing than the original bubblegum pink exterior. With a PRO+ account, you can easily access color resources and order samples in a variety of sizes, now including Peel & Stick.

Your Guide to Princess Cays Bungalows

princess cay carnival cruise

A bungalow rental on the adults-only Sanctuary portion of the resort starts at $300 and there are seven of these available to rent. Princess cruisers can use their drink packages at the private island destination. However, none of the bars offer fountain soda—only cans—so you’ll have to pay for soda even with a beverage package.

Tours, Excursions and Add-on Experiences at Princess Cays

When you pre-pay for rentals, you’ll have a ticket delivered to your stateroom that you can redeem at the rental desk. Here you’ll also find the burial site of two young local women who died on the island in the late 1940s. Their simple grave markers are no longer visible (I believe 2017’s Hurricane Irma may have knocked them from their upright position and covered them with sand). This section of the water can get a bit choppy, especially when the tide is coming in.

Other points of interest at the resort

Princess Cays is a lot smaller than Half Moon Cay, and doesn’t have quite the range of excursions. Guests tend to prefer the softer sands of Half Moon Cay as well. There are also servers who occasionally visit the bungalows offering drink service, though you are never far from a bar if you prefer to stretch your legs. There are several great Princess Cruises options for those wanting to visit Princess Cays.

Glass-Bottom Boat Cruise Along Princess Cays

If you’re looking for an exclusive spot to relax during your private island getaway, booking one of the candy-colored bungalows is the way to go! Cool off inside your own air-conditioned cabana, or lounge on the patio or under your umbrella. If you’re visiting on a Carnival ship, your drink package won’t work on the island. Instead, you’ll need to pay for all drinks at the bar with your Sail & Sign card. Most shore excursions for your day at the private destination operate right on the resort grounds or very close by. The island is a popular port of call for many of Princess’ and Carnival’s Caribbean cruises.

Without a deep harbor for docking, guests reach the port via tenders. These smaller boats ferry groups of passengers between the cruise ship and the tender dock on the island. Snorkel the SeasLike so many parts of The Bahamas, Princess Cays lets you snorkel without having to venture too far out into the ocean.

Average daytime highs reach 75°F (24°C) in winter and around 85°F (29°C) in summer, when it may be more humid with thunderstorms. In fact, it is the 8th largest island in the Bahamas (out of over 700 islands and 2,400 cays spread across 5,358 square miles). Cigarette smoking and vaping is permitted at Princess Cays, but only in designated smoking areas around the resort (look for signs or standing ashtrays). Smoking and vaping is also allowed at many of the open-air bars (look for ashtrays on the bar). Lockers are available in several locations around Princess Cays. Daily locker rental is $10 per day, and can be pre-purchased or paid for on the island.

Leaving Princess Cays to explore Eleuthera

If you like a more active day, there are volleyball and basketball courts for joining in some team fun. Youngsters can enjoy the supervised sandy play area at Pelican’s Perch which has a replica galleon for young pirates. In 1973, the Bahamas gained independence from Britain and became the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. After that, the island’s economy focused on tourism, which is now the main source of income. From the 1950s to the 1980s the island was used for agriculture and became prosperous from the export of sweet juicy pineapples.

Carnival Cruise Line Adjusts Itineraries for Three Ships - Cruise Hive

Carnival Cruise Line Adjusts Itineraries for Three Ships.

Expert guidance. No booking fees.

Since the start, it's been our aim to provide the latest cruise news covering all the major cruise lines. Princess Cays is exclusively visited by Princess and Carnival cruise ships. Get up early and be among the first in line for the tenders to avoid a very long wait.

Some of the bars do allow smoking, so keep an eye out for ashtrays on the bar if you’d like to avoid secondhand smoke. The freshwater wading pool is very shallow, perfect for little ones to splash around. Kids do need to be potty trained to swim in the pool—swim diapers aren’t allowed.

Princess Cays doesn’t have a pier and so guests will need to use a tender boat to get to shore from their ship. Princess Cays is one of a number of private destinations owned or leased by cruise lines, and these are becoming more and more popular. Though you will receive soft drinks and water in your cooler, and a few snacks, if you wish to order any additional food or drinks, you'll pay extra. There is a gourmet picnic option available to bungalow guests if you wish to have a catered dining experience for an upcharge. Your Sanctuary bungalow will additionally be equipped with water misters on the exterior of the cabana to help keep you cool.

Local vendor stalls are located near the indoor shops on the main part of the resort, as well as along the pathway to the beach over the bridge on the south side. Guests booked in any bungalow also enjoy priority tendering to Princess Cays (tendering back to the ship is on a first come first served basis). The bungalows can comfortably accommodate four people, though you can purchase passes for up to two additional guests. Additionally, there’s usually a cold drink station set up near the picnic tables outside of Grill Crazy BBQ Pavilion to quickly grab bottles of water, soft drinks, and cans of beer. You’ll also find complimentary self-serve drinks inside each buffet venue, including iced tea, lemonade, and water. On the south side of the resort you’ll find beach volleyball and a basketball court, perfect for a bit of exercise (or just watching a lively game).

Although the name “Princess Cays” suggests a series of sandy islands and atolls, it is actually an exclusive resort at one end of this long island. Medallion Net WiFi is available (for a fee) for guests visiting Princess Cays on a Princess ship. The WiFi is not accessible to guests visiting on a Carnival cruise. Only one cruise ship visits Princess Cays per day, allowing for an uncrowded experience. The exit gate from Princess Cays is located near Love Boat Marina where the tenders dock.

princess cay carnival cruise

The Carnival Cheers drinks package doesn’t apply when you’re on Princess Cays, or on the other private island Half Moon Cay. You can still use your Sail & Sign card to pay for drinks, so you don’t need to carry a credit card or cash. Otherwise, the tender journey is short and you’ll be at the resort in no time at all, so you’ll still have a long day to explore and relax. Just be mindful that the return tenders to the ship towards the end of the day can get busy. You won’t be left behind if you’re queuing but you might have to stand around until it’s your turn to board a tender. Prior bungalow guests note that cabana numbers 7 to 14 are a bit more convenient to the beach than others -- and are ideal for snorkelers -- with a nearby bar and bathroom.

The location does mean that you get a similar climate to other major destinations in the Bahamas, which means it’s warm throughout the year. Cruises are most popular during the winter months to escape the colder weather at home. Most cruises in the region go to either Half Moon Cay or Princess Cays but not both. Aside from that, they come with the same amenities and basic structure, albeit for a slightly higher price ($260) for up to four adults. An additional two people can be included for $25.95 per person. There are two main types of cabana rentals at Princess Cays, which should be booked in advance through the Cruise Personalizer.

Be sure to book guided water sports before your cruise (via the cruise line’s online planner) for the best availability. Or you can book on board if you’re a last-minute decision maker. Or venture a bit farther to the small cove across from the colorful bungalows—this beach is open to everyone and features fantastic snorkeling! You can swim out from this little beach and to the left to view live corals and thousands of colorful fish. See the CoastIt takes smaller vessels to get close to the coastline so you can really explore Eleuthera’s picturesque coves and rocky outcrops.

Glass-Bottom Boat Cruise PCS Shore Excursions

princess cay carnival cruise

For a different approach to sightseeing on the Princess Cays island, book the Dune Buggy Adventure, where two people can board an off-road vehicle to explore Eleuthera. You'll drive through Bannerman Town, a historic -- and possibly haunted -- village that used to hold slave auctions during the 1700s. Anyone who isn’t a US citizen will, of course, need their passport to get into America when they’re first boarding their cruise. And generally, cruise lines recommend that you take a passport if you have one – it makes it easier to rebook travel if your cruise suffers from any cancellations or delays. As the Princess Cays cruise port is in the Bahamas, US residents don’t need a passport to sail to the destination.

Princess Cays is a Carnival Corporation owned island/port tucked away in the islands of the Bahamas… and oh man what a dream. Being that it’s a private island, we really didn’t know what to expect at all. Most tenders aren’t roll-on accessible, and crew can’t assist in carrying guests or devices onto the boats. Is Princess Cays Carnival’s Private Island?

Some locals do come from the rest of the Eleuthera island to work, especially the vendors selling at the market. There is a craft market on Princess Cays where local vendors will sell a variety of items including clothing, shells and handmade gifts. You can’t pay for these using your Sail & Sign card – the vendors aren’t employed by the cruise line. If there ever was a shark in the waters, the guides are trained to act quickly and ensure everyone clears the area – you wouldn’t be left at risk.

Swimming is still possible during this time; however, the water might be a bit colder than you were hoping for. What are some of your favorite things to do at this private cruise destination? Drop us an anchor below to share your experiences visiting Princess Cays in the Bahamas. A wooden playground in the sand offers climbing opportunities around the likes of a replica pirate ship, all while shaded by a tented canopy.

princess cay carnival cruise

Princess Cays offers multiple sandy beaches, so there’s always plenty of room for sunbathing, swimming, and snorkeling from the beach. The only downside to this particular stop was that we had to wait in line awhile to get back on the tender to take us back to the boat. We waited until closer to the end of our time to get in line because we were having too much fun. Had we headed back a little sooner, maybe we could have beat the crowds! If you haven’t already, you can read about our second stop on our Carnival Cruise where we stopped at Nassau and went swimming with dolphins. We spent the majority of our time in the ocean, floating on the tubes we brought.

What’s the Weather like at Princess Cays?

If you book a morning tour, you will automatically be given priority boarding tickets for the tender. Bring cash ashore with you as the local vendors only accept payment in US dollars. Guides provide a safety briefing and some interesting facts about stingrays before participants enter the waist-high water. The Coastal Cruise, Snorkel, and Float combines a boat trip on a 35-seater motor vessel with time for snorkeling offshore. Couples will love having their own private escape with a Beach Clamshell rental that includes two comfortable beach chairs for lazing. You can rent equipment or use your own and snorkel right off the beach.

Taking the train to your cruise is the new hot trend to combine a land and sea vacation

If your ship isn’t at full capacity (as I noticed on my 2021 Carnival Pride cruise during COVID), Sea Breeze Grill might not open due to the lower number of passengers on the island. After a morning of fresh air and activity, a hearty island lunch will be just what you’re looking for. Of course, you can always swim or snorkel from the beach on your own. I always bring my own full-face snorkel mask and gear when I cruise. Equipment rentals are available to book before your cruise as well.

Bars on Princess Cays

For starters, you will receive priority tendering from your ship to shore, allowing you to make the most of your time on the beach before the island reaches peak crowds later in the day. If you need assistance getting to your bungalow, golf carts will transport passengers from the dock to your private retreat. Princess Cruises and Carnival Cruise Line share the destination as they are both owned by Carnival Corporation, so guests from either cruise line may visit Princess Cays. You will know prior to sailing if you are scheduled to visit Carnival's other private island, Half Moon Cay, or Princess Cays, as it will be clearly indicated on the itinerary when booking.

If you missed the purchase window, check with us once you're on board — we'll help you find what you’re looking for. Despite being an inhabited island, the resort is an oasis surrounded by trees, beaches, and crystal clear water teaming with fish. There are numerous land and water activities to keep cruisers busy during a visit.

Cruisers can help themselves to delicious meats, salads, bread, fruit and desserts. Southern stingrays will quickly come around in search of food. It’s a unique opportunity to stroke their velvety skin as you hand-feed them.

Guests need to take their cruise card/Medallion disk for purchases, such as drinks. There are some shops on the island, which accept cash only as payment. It is advisable to pack everything needed for the day and planned activities since going to the ship is not as easy as simply walking back along the pier. Some areas of the beach are rocky, so water shoes may be of benefit to some, along with sunscreen and insect repellant. There are locker rentals at a price of $10 and towel service is available. Children ages 12 and younger save up to 50 percent on excursions.

Princess Cays sits at the southern tip of Eleuthera, in the Out Islands of the Bahamas. Eleuthera is about 50 miles (80 km) from Nassau and 263 miles (423 km) from Miami.

Stingrays are common in these shallow warm waters and the chance to get up-close is always popular with nature lovers and curious youngsters aged 6 and above. Follow a guide along the back roads while driving your own Dune Buggy to a beautiful pink sand beach. During the winter, the islands have a dry, sunny climate making it the perfect place to escape from wintry weather in North America and Europe. Less-busy beaches may not have lifeguards on duty in all areas. Princess Cays is located in the Bahamas, on the southern end of the island of Eleuthera. In the past, there was usually another straw market set up just past the gate for some added shopping opportunities, but this wasn’t there during my last visit.

If you are traveling with people under the age of 18 that wish to use your bungalow, you will have to reserve one in the main section of the beach. If you want easier beach access, booking a general bungalow here is your best bet. Drier and slightly cooler in late fall and winter, cruisers can expect little rain and sunny skies. Note that sometimes the Bahamas is subject to the occasional cold front.
